Pizza Making the Easy Way

Homemade pizzas can be every bit as good as pizzas from your favorite neighborhood pizzeria, as long as you learn a few tricks and get a little extra help. Since I discovered the Pizzazz Pizza Oven from Presto, pizza making has become a whole lot easier. It also makes perfect cheesey bread.

Here are the basics on making good pizzas:

  • (1) Make soft dough with dry yeast, flour, water, salt and olive oil. Place the dough covered in a warm place for a 20-30 minutes
  • (2) Drizzle olive oil on the Pizzaz Pizza pan, then stretch the dough over the pizza pan
  • (3) Spread evenly a layer of homemade tomato sauce on the dough
  • (4) Sprinkle Italian seasoning, either home made or store-bought
  • (5) Spread a layer of mozzarella cheese on top
  • (6) Add your favorite toppings. Here are a couple of examples. One has prosciuttoi and thinnly sliced zucchinis, the other has pepperoni, Canadian bacon, pineapple and black olives. You can use whatever ingredients you have on hand or strike your fancy.
  • (7) Sprinkle some hot pepper flakes on top
  • Once that is done, place the pizza pan on the Pizzaz Pizza Cooker, set timer to 20 minutes (Max level). Start with the Dual bake function, so both the Upper and Lower heating elements are on. Monitor the pizza as it cooks, you can switch between Upper or Lower only heating elements. You can add extra time on the timer if needed. Remove the pizza from the Pizzaz, sprinkle with a mixture of chopped fresh herb, garlic and Parmesan cheese on top. Cut and serve hot.

If you don’t have a Pizzazz pizza cooker, place your pizza on the lower rack and cook in a pre-heated 450 F oven for about 8 minutes to harden the crust, then reduce to 400F and cook until done. It is best to use a pizza stone when cooking pizza in an oven.

Note: With the Pizzazz Pizza Oven, pizza making is easy and fun. It makes pizza in about half the time of a conventional oven. The unit has independently controlled top and bottom heating elements. The timer has an automatic shutoff. I have been making pizza a lot more since I aquired the Pizzazz.
